Council Member Krusas Enters Guilty Plea
The United States Attorney’s Office in Hammond says 69-year-old Marilyn Krusas of Gary has pleaded guilty to the felony offense of tax evasion. District Judge Joseph Van Bokkelen set her sentencing for July 11, 2013. This charge involves claims that the Gary City Common Council member had not paid federal income taxes for at least twenty years, accumulating more than $150,000 of taxes due, then attempted to conceal a windfall of more than $230,000 from the government.
U.S. Attorney David Capp’s office says the case was filed as a result of an investigation by the Internal Revenue Service-Criminal Investigation Division. This case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Gary Bell.
