On this edition of CF, we take a peek behind the coroner’s curtain of death scenes, gruesome discoveries and forensic investigations with Porter County Coroner Chuck Harris and Lake County Coroner Merrilee Frey about their intriguing jobs in our NWI communities.

A county coroner’s role is much more than simply pronouncing decedents “really most sincerely dead,” as Oz’s Munchkin Coroner famously quipped.  The Coroner’s office deals with homicides, suicides and natural deaths, among other grisly incidents, accidents and death scenes. These deaths don’t attract front-page headlines or back-pew prayers, but they take place in our proverbial backyard on a daily basis. We’re giving you a peek behind the coroner’s curtain, which typically conceals the grim reaper’s gruesome handiwork.
