September 10, 2013 — A Lake County Coroner’s record shows that the Coroner’s office pronounced one person dead today at the site of an explosion.

The report lists “John Doe” as pronounced dead at 12:25 a.m.  The document, 9-10-13 Coroner’s death notification, Lowell explosion, says the body of the white man sustained unknown injuries at 108 East 181st Avenue in Lowell.  That’s where an explosion last night destroyed two houses and damaged another house that caught fire.

The death notification says the victim’s cause of death is “Pending.”  The Coroner’s office record shows that it was dispatched to the scene at 11:40 p.m., approximately four hours after the reported explosion, during which firefighters and emergency responders worked to secure the safety of neighboring residents and contain the fire.

The Coroner’s office says other investigating agencies involved include  Lake County P.D. and its C.S.I., Indiana State Fire Marshal, Lowell F.D., Crown Point F.D., and Lake Hills F.D.
