Controlled Burns Planned At Marquette Park

Share Tweet Email

October 30, 2014 — Miller residents will have to seek alternate routes other than some streets in and around Marquette Park next month.

Crews from a Hobart company will conduct controlled burns in places throughout the lakefront park to clear away invasive plants.  And they may not get much advance notice of the closings.

The partial closures are to begin after November 11th and will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the fall and later in the spring.

Sandy O’Brian of Ecorealm, the Hobart company managing the controlled burn, says the work will depend on the weather and there could be only a couple days’ advance notice.  But Gary city officials said they will give residents in the area as much notice as possible.
