Coats Talks Gun Rights To NRA Convention Audience
April 28, 2914 — Indiana Public Broadcasting –Indiana Senator Dan Coats says the Obama administration and some Congressional Democrats are using every opportunity to undermine Americans’ Second Amendment Rights. As Indiana Public Broadcasting’s Brandon Smith reports, Coats on Friday addressed the National Rifle Association Convention in Indianapolis:
Coats says he and his conservative colleagues in Washington are fighting the fight on many fronts to ensure people can pass along the values of freedom, liberty, and opportunity to future generations. Coats says Hoosiers don’t accept the narrative that liberal activists and judges push that the Second Amendment is outdated and not relevant for today’s society:
“A cornerstone of the Obama agenda and a top priority of a certain contingent in Congress is ending responsible gun ownership for law-abiding American citizens.”
But Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America spokesperson Lucia McBath says groups such as hers are only fighting for common sense reforms that will help curb gun violence:
“Before us today stands the Goliath of the gun lobby and we are the Davids, called to protect those and serve those that cannot protect themselves.”
McBath says changing America’s gun culture will not be easy and it won’t happen overnight.
