Co-owner’s Son Found Dead in Meat Company Cooler

November 4, 2013 — Merrillville police are looking for a murder suspect who left a victim at Piatak Meats business today.

Police say 27-year-old Andrew Fugate of Hobart was found murdered inside his family’s business when Merrillville police responded to a burglary call at 6200 Broadway.  The Lake County Coroner was called around 10 a.m.

Police say Fugate was found dead on the cooler floor of the meat business that his father co-owns, the victim of a shooting.  Police say that he arrived at the business shortly after 4 .m., then another worker arriving for work at 7 a.m. discovered the burglary and the body before calling police.

Merrillville police says the Northwest Indiana Major Crimes Task Force is involved in the investigation, and it invites anyone with related information to contact Merrillville Police Department Detective Bureau Commander Robert Wiley at 219-769-3531.
