INDOT says Cline Avenue between I-80-94 and Columbus Drive in East Chicago re-opened in both directions today before 6:00 a.m., in time for rush hour traffic.

The roadway closed Saturday night and remained closed all weekend long, so crews could repair dozens of potholes caused by last week’s severe winter weather.  The Lake County Sheriff’s Department received a record number of calls from motorists whose vehicles were damaged by potholes on Cline Avenue.  Spokeswoman Patti Van Til said sheriff’s deputies responded to 50 calls on Saturday.

INDOT spokesman Matt Deitchley says crews will continue to fill potholes on highways across the LaPorte district,  but the freezing and thawing process is a recipe for potholes.  Crews will fill them as quickly as possible.
