City of Gary Rolls Out Snow Plan
By: Lakeshore Staff
January 5, 2015 — With more snow expected Monday night, the City of Gary has officially implemented its snow plan. Citizens are asked to pay close attention to the marked snow routes and adhere to parking regulations. Vehicles parked in marked snow routes where 2 inches or more of snow has accumulated will be towed beginning Monday, January 5.
“Due to last year’s severe snowstorms, we wanted to be ready this season,” said Gary Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson. “We have been publicizing our snow plan since November, and we are asking for the help of our citizens to ensure all portions of the plan are implemented smoothly.”
Snow removal efforts are led by the City of Gary’s General Services Department with assistance from the Gary Police Department, Gary Fire Department, Gary Parks Department, Gary Housing Authority, Gary Sanitary District and local contractors as needed.
Citizens are encouraged to use the 311 system to report a snow emergency or issue. The 311 system can be accessed by calling (219) 881-1311, by downloading the City of Gary 311 app to your smartphone or by logging your emergency on the City’s website at www.gary.in.us.
