Chicago Blackhawks Support Storm Victims, Workers
November 29, 2013 — Governor Pat Quinn and Chicago Blackhawks President and Chief Executive Office John McDonough co-hosted a luncheon in the north-central Illinois community of Washington to aid victims of last week’s tornado.
The event Wednesday, sponsored by Chicago Blackhawks Charities, was also a way to thank emergency responders and volunteers who have worked continuously since the Nov. 17 storm. Co-hosts were U.S. Representative Aaron Schock, a Peoria Republican, and Washington Mayor Gary Manier.
Manier says as his town cleans up, he’s repeatedly reminded of support from all over the state.
Quinn reported that President Barack Obama approved the governor’s request late Tuesday for federal assistance to help people and businesses in Washington and 15 counties around Illinois.
The request detailed damage from at least 24 tornadoes to 2,400 homes.
