Chicago Bears Chairman speaks to DeKalb students
DEKALB, Ill. (AP) — Messages delivered by the Chicago Bears chairman have stuck with a group of fifth-graders at a DeKalb elementary school.
George McCaskey recently spoke to 42 students at Gwendolyn Brooks Elementary School about the importance of leadership and learning. He also told the fifth-graders, many of whom were wearing Bears jerseys, that working in a group is important, and the group is more important than the individual.
Delailah Thompson says she learned that she can conquer her dreams if she stays in school. Alfonso Moraga says he learned he has to work hard to accomplish his goals.
McCaskey, a longtime resident of DeKalb County, tells The Daily Chronicle he tries to take advantage of opportunities to interact with the community.
McCaskey has been the football team’s chairman since 2011. He’s one of Bears owner Virginia McCaskey’s 11 children.
