Casual Fridays – November 6th, 2015
Four years ago this week, Jerry heard that Lakeshore Public Radio was launching a new show called Casual Fridays with Jerry Davich. Right then and there, Jerry figured he had a legitimate shot to co-host it. After all, how many Jerry Davich’s could there BE in Northwest Indiana? Still, he had to audition for the show. Fortunately for all of us involved, he made the cut! Together with Karen Walker, our dynamic duo have done roughly 200 shows (which is about 190 more than they ever figured).
Through the years, special on-air guests have included Bill Kurtis, David Spade, Matt Forte, Billy Gardell (from Mike & Molly fame), Johnny B., Snookie, and several other national celebs. And that’s on top of the countless local officials, mayors, police chiefs and ordinary region residents doing extraordinary things in Northwest Indiana to grace our studio and phone line. On today’s special 4th anniversary show, we’ll play clips from some of those hilarious moments.
On top of that, we’ll add one more name to list: Graham Russell from the soft-rock group Air Supply. Our special guest will be coming to this region later this month for an Air Supply performance at the Blue Chip Casino. Graham will share with Lakeshore listeners tales from the road, classic songwriting hooks, what he’s up to when he’s not touring, and what it’s like to still be adored by fans all these years later.
Before that, though, we talk with former Lakeshore staffer Tavis Buchan. Tavis was the first wizard behind the Casual Fridays curtain. He’ll be calling in from somewhere over the rainbow (which is what we call Oregon these days) to talk about the “good ol’ days” and what almost was used as the name for Casual Fridays.
Plus, “Bev, the Happy Birthday Lady” will sing to us live on the air as only she can, and Gregg Hertzlieb drops a few puns and well wishes for the occasion.
Our show is turning FOUR!
We’re potty trained and ready for preschool. So, along with our engineer extraordinaire, Dan Clark, and our newest addition to the family, Eric Reithel, sit back, relax, kick off those heels, loosen that tie, and pour yourself a stiff drink. It’s Casual Fridays with Jerry Davich time, and – from the bottom of our hearts – thank you for joining us throughout all of these years.
