Candlelight Vigil Held For I-65 Fatal Crash Victims
August 20, 2013 — Dozens of relatives and friends gathered for a vigil on Monday honoring seven family members killed in a highway construction zone crash in northwest Indiana.
Mourners lit candles as darkness fell last evening and placed them around a fountain at the Merrillville restaurant where crash victim Lindsey Williams worked until recently.
The 27-year-old Williams and her 5- and 3-year-old daughters died in the crash last week on I-65 in Jasper County, when a semitrailer slammed into their stopped SUV. Williams’ sister, two young nieces and an uncle also died.
Restaurant owner Sharyl Gutierrez described Williams as a beautiful person who worked hard to get a license to become a bus driver for the Merrillville schools.
Indiana state police continue investigating the crash.
