Buncich Running For L.C. Democratic Party Chairman
May 20, 2014—Lake County Sheriff John Buncich is competing for more than just his current job this election year. Buncich, who is seeking re-election, announced this week that he will also be seeking the position of Lake County Democratic Party Chairman. Party delegates will vote for the chairman at the June 28 caucus.
In a press release announcing his candidacy on May 20, Buncich stated, “I have been asked by numerous public officials, party officials and precinct committee men and women to run for chairman so that our Lake County Democratic Party has continued leadership. Mayor Tom McDermott has done an outstanding job for the past 6 years in leading our party. If elected, I will continue that strong leadership by maintaining the participation of all cities and towns and organized labor in our decision making. I will continue to be accessible to all as I have been while serving as Sheriff. Working with all Lake County voters, my goal is to elect our county, township and town Democratic nominees in the November 4 general election. It is also my goal to elect a Democratic governor and Democratic president in 2016. Lake County has been neglected by State government and its time for us to receive our fair share of State resources. I’ll work to improve conditions for every community in Lake County.”
