Boys Arrested For Serious County Fair Bomb Plot
July 15, 2013 — Two 16-year-old boys are in jail accused of making and taking a bomb to the midway of the Laporte County Fair with the intent of detonating it.
Laporte County Sheriff Mike Mollenhauer said Monday that the incident happened at 9 p.m. Thursday when deputies received a phone tip.
Mollenhauer said that timing allowed deputies to find and arrest a suspect in seven minutes. The Sheriff says a backpack carried by one of the boys contained an explosive device which was taken from the scene by the Porter County’s bomb squad which dismantled it. That boy has been charged with possession of a destructive device.
A second teen accused of making the bomb was arrested at his home in Laporte, charged with manufacturing a destructive device.
