Bowman Wins Trip To Indy, Andrean And Merrillville Fall
Coach Marvin Rea and his Bowman Academy boys basketball team have won another trip to Indianapolis. The Eagles built up a 12-point lead over Tipton in the 3rd quarter of their Class 2A semi-state game Saturday at Huntington, then held off a furious 4th quarter rally to win 67-64. The victory earns Bowman yet another trip to the Class 2A state finals. The Eagles will play Linton-Stockton for the Class 2A state Championship on Saturday, March 23.
Things didn’t end as well for Andrean. In the Class 3A semi-state game at Huntington, the 59ers held a lead over Concordia Lutheran throughout much of the second half, but let it slip away late. Ending regulation in a tie, Andrean fell behind early in overtime and never led in the extra session, losing to Concordia by a final score of 68-63.
In a Class 4A semi-state game at Lafayette Jefferson, Merrillville fell behind early against Carmel and never closed the gap, losing by a final of 66-36. The loss closed an otherwise strong season for the Pirates, capped by a pair of wins the week before, including an upset over the previously unbeaten Munster Mustangs.
