October 8, 2013 (AP) – Darrell Hazell watched Purdue’s offense sputter for 4½ weeks before making a change.

He’s hoping that a quarterback change jump starts the Boilermakers.

A week after announcing Danny Etling would replace Rob Henry, a fifth-year senior and team captain, as the starting quarterback, Purdue is eager to see what the freshman can do.

Etling made his college debut late in the first half against Northern Illinois and led Purdue to a field goal. He finished the game going 19 of 39 for 241 yards with two touchdowns, two interceptions and was sacked three times. Afterward, Etling acknowledged he needed to play better.

The two-week break between games should help, and Etling said Tuesday he is feeling more comfortable in his new role.
