Bitter Cold-Related School Closings Eligible For Waivers
(UNDATED) (AP) — An Indiana state education department spokesman says that any schools closed during this week’s bitter cold won’t have to make up at least two of those missed days.
Daniel Altman says any school closed Monday or Tuesday can apply for a waiver freeing them from the need to make up those days. No decision’s yet been made on whether Indiana’s waiver will be extended to also include today.
He says the extreme cold and not Sunday’s snowfall was the driving factor behind granting the waivers because “it became an issue of student safety.”
