Bishop Melczek On Selection Of Pope Francis

People all over the world had their eyes on Vatican City today – as white smoke emerged from the Sistine Chapel and a new Pope was selected by the Cardinals of the Catholic Church. For the first time, a Cardinal from Latin America, specifically Argentina, has become pope. He’s Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio, and he has taken the name Pope Francis I. The Lakeshore’s Dan Bindert spoke this afternoon with Bishop Dale J Melczek of the Catholic Diocese of Gary to get his thoughts on the selection. Bindert began the interview by asking Melczek what the new Pope’s background as a Jesuit might mean for the church….
