Battle for Blood Returns To North Township
June 25, 2014 — It’s an event with a gruesome name, but organizers say it’s all for a good cause.
The 4th annual North Township Battle for Blood will be held Thursday, June 26th. Residents from East Chicago, Hammond, Highland, Munster and Whiting will square off to see which community can donate the most blood in one day. The event, hosted by the North Township Trustee’s Office, uses friendly rivalry to encourage the community to donate blood through the Red Cross.
Officials say during the summer months when school is not in session, the number of blood drives diminishes, creating a need for donations.
This year’s battle will have two donation sites, Wicker Park in Highland from 8 am to 7:30 pm and the Mayor’s office in East Chicago from 9 am to 3 pm.
The goal is to collect at least 100 pints of blood on Thursday. To date, the Battle for Blood has collected a total of 780 units of blood.
Those who donate will receive a coupon for a free pint of Culver’s Frozen Custard and free admission to Wicker Park’s evening concert.
