Attucks-Roosevelt game part of 1955 title tribute
November 20, 2013 (AP) – The Indianapolis Crispus Attucks High School boys basketball team will play a rematch of the 1955 state championship game with Gary Roosevelt next week as part of a tribute to the historic game.
The Oscar Robertson-led Attucks team was the first all-black school in the nation to win a state basketball championship when it defeated Roosevelt 97-74. The game also was the first state title game between two all-black schools.
Robertson and former NBA player Dick Barnett, a member of the 1955 Roosevelt team, will speak at a luncheon Nov. 29 as part of the tribute before the rematch the following day at the Genesis Convention Center in Gary.
