Another series of public meetings on the Illiana Expressway project linking I-65 in south Lake County with I-55 in Illinois will be held later this month. The Indiana public meeting will be on April 18th beginning at 5 p.m. at Lowell Middle School on Cline Avenue in Lowell.
INDOT, IDOT and the Federal Highway Administration finished the first part of the project in January with approval of the Record of Decision advancing one corridor and a “no-action” alternative into the second tier of the project. The recommended corridor, “B3,” extends from I-55 near Wilmington, Illinois east to I-65 near Cedar Lake.
The second tier of the study project shifts the focus from the original broad 952 square-mile study area to the communities, landowners, and access needs along the preferred corridor. It includes more detailed engineering and environmental studies, and is expected to be completed early 2014.
INDOT says another important component of the Illiana planning process beginning this year will be a study of funding, financing and implementation options.
