Another Round Of Layoffs At PUC
August 9, 2013 – Purdue University Calumet Chancellor Thomas Keon announced the university would lay off another 7 staffers. This comes after a combination of lay-offs and retirements totaling 30 staffers in April. A decline in enrollment has opened up a $3 million budget deficit. Keon said the deficit was caused in large part by a change in the basic structure of higher education in Indiana. PUC can no longer take students in need of remediation. Many others are now taking dual credit courses in high school or at IVY Tech Community College.
The current round of cuts now includes tenure-track assistant professors.
