Another Metallic Sheen Noted Near Porter Beach
July 18, 2013 — PORTER, Ind. (AP) — Indiana environmental workers are investigating a metallic sheen at a Lake Michigan beach that was similar to another substance that closed the beach last month.
Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore Ranger Bruce Rowe told the AP that the Porter Fire Department was dispatched to Porter Beach about 1 p.m. CDT Wednesday. He says it’s too soon to say whether the substance is the same as the one that closed the beach on June 17th.
Indiana Department of Environmental Management spokesman Dan Goldblatt says IDEM workers were at the beach Wednesday collecting water samples. He says IDEM’s investigation of the glittery film found floating near the Porter Beach shoreline last month is not complete.
