Air Show Moving to Fair Oaks Farms in Newton County
November 21, 2013 — After a one-year hiatus, the South Shore Air Show will return next summer, but not in Gary.
South Shore Convention and Visitors Authority President and Chief Executive Officer Speros Batistatos says the South Shore air show is moving to Fair Oaks Farms in Newton County. He says the 33,000 acre dairy and pig farm will allow the show to be bigger and better.
Batistatos says the location could attract more visitors from across the state now that the Indianapolis air show has been cancelled. Batistatos says the event will still feature free admission with a charge for parking.
The South Shore CVA says the multi-attraction partnership is the first of its kind for a U.S. air show.
Batistatos says, “I think that it’s going to be a longer time at the event for families because there’s going to be more to do. So they might come down early, stay later because they can see the new pig adventure, or see the cow adventure again. There’s the kids playground.”
The 2012 air show brought an estimated 575,000 visitors to Marquette Park in Gary’s Miller Beach neighborhood.
