A Chance to Find Four-Legged Love This Weekend

February 14, 2014 — If you are still in search of a cuddly buddy for Valentine’s Day, a four-legged one could halt your hunt this weekend.
PetSmart Charities National Adoption Weekend is set for February 14 — 16. Organizers say the weekend is a chance for residents to find unconditional love from a furry companion, and help homeless animals.
“PetSmart Charities is making a tremendous impact on pet homelessness and individual lives through National Adoption Weekend events,” says Jan Wilkins, executive director of PetSmart Charities Inc.“We know that adopting pets not only saves their lives, but it makes our lives better, too.”
More than 2,000 matchmakers, or animal welfare organizations, will be on-site at PetSmart ® stores nationwide.
Perry Ingersoll, operations manager for PetSmart in Merrillville, Ind., says store traffic spiked Friday with customers looking to be forever families for pets.
“It’s a one-stop shop,” he says. “They can come in and adopt and use the services we have. We offer dog training, grooming, we have a vet. They can get all their treats and food as well.”
The Merrillville location is partnering with four local adoption agencies, and hopes to see at least ten pets find permanent homes. The event begins each day at 9 a.m and more information is available at pets.petsmart.com/adoptions/.
