89-year-old Hoosier Plans “Guilty” Plea to Hauling Cocaine
October 1, 2013 — An 89-year-old Indiana man caught in Michigan with a load of cocaine plans to plead guilty next week.
A court filing says Michigan City man Leo Sharp is due in Detroit federal court October 8 to change his “not guilty” plea.
Sharp was 87 when he was stopped in Washtenaw County in 2011, based on a tip to state police by federal agents, where police discovered more than 200 pounds of cocaine.
Sharp says he was forced at gunpoint to transport the cocaine, but agents say he was not a reluctant “drug mule.” They say evidence shows he’d been hauling drugs for years.
