Mayor Copelane: East Chicago Ends Furloughs
August 29, 2013 — The mayor of East Chicago announces the end of furlough days for all city employees.
Mayor Anthony Copeland thanked his staff for its sacrifices during what he called a “journey” from the previous administration.
Copeland says the City’s fiscal health has improved after his administration made permanent cost savings that resulted in a reduction in the operating budget.
He says the City will be looking for ways to further compensate employees once the City’s finances are where they need to be.
