Cats Win Still Lead with 5 to play
August 29, 2013 -Kansas City, KS – The RailCats offense broke out early and rode Morgan Coombs to a 10-4 victory over Kansas City on Wednesday night. The RailCats improved to 54-40 and the T-Bones dropped to 40-55.
With Winnipeg’s victory over St. Paul, the RailCats still hold a one and a half game lead in the American Association wild card chase.
Morgan Coombs went seven and a third innings for his sixth win of the season. He allowed four runs on seven hits and one walk. Morgan struck out five and served up three home runs. Coombs now leads the league in home runs allowed with 16 on the season.
Craig Maddox went 3-for-4 with a walk and a pair of runs scored. His two-run home run in the sixth was his fifth of the season and now leads the team. Cristian Guerrero and Reid Fronk each had two hits in the game and Brian Kolb had three RBI.
The RailCats and T-Bones continue their series on Thursday night. The RailCats send RHP Stephen Hiscock (3-2, 3.26 ERA) to the mound; the T-Bones will throw RHP Shawn Garceau (6-8, 4.26 ERA).
