The Blackhawks took game 1 in overtime Tuesday night against the Minnesota Wild, 2-1. It’s fitting, as Chicago’s last four playoff victories all came in extra time. Viktor Stalberg hit a wide open Bryan Bickell for the game winner after getting a deep ice pass from defensemen Johnny Oduya. The game marked the eighth time the Hawks have played overtime hockey in their last nine playoff games.

Minnesota’a Cal Clutterbuck opened up the scoring in the 1st period with a wrister that found its way past Corey Crawford. The Blackhawks tied the game when Marian Hossa found the back of the net in the 2nd period.

Crawford collected 26 saves for the Hawks. Minnesota goalie Josh Harding, an unexpected starter, saw even more action, saving 35 shots for the Wild. Harding got the starting nod when teammate Nikolas Backstrom suffered a lower body injury during warm-ups.

The win gives the Blackhawks a 1-0 series lead. Game two in the best-of-seven series takes place Friday night at Chicago’s United Center.
