“BRITISH INVASION RENAISANCE MAN, PETER ASHER”

Pop culture changed forever in 1964-65 with the arrival of British Invasion pop artists on American shores.  Fifty years later, a quorum of iconic Invasion-era singers — Peter Asher (Peter & Gordon), Denny Laine (Moody Blues & Wings), Chad & Jeremy, Billy J. Kramer, Mike Pender’s Searchers, and Terry Sylvester (The Hollies) — will stop at Chicago’s City Winery on Saturday, March 7th.

Asher began as a child actor and later forged a music career in 1964 as half of the singing duo PETER & GORDON, with nine Top 20 career hits, including “I Go To Pieces,” “A World Without Love,” “True Love Ways,” “Baby I’m Yours,”  “Lady Godiva,” and “Woman,” all featured in tonight’s “Midwest BEAT” program.

Along with discussing Peter & Gordon and the current tour, Asher will chat about being head of A&R for Apple Records, where he worked closely with the Beatles on their individual projects.  Asher later went on to produce and manage a variety of artists, including James Taylor and Linda Ronstadt.
